Importance of Light & Location

Seniors

I would consider myself a subject focused photographer, not location focused. This simply means I believe that the subject (and lighting) are the most important part of the photo. The first thing we want to take into consideration about any location we shoot is the light. A beautiful background is great for sure, but proper lighting can make or break the images being taken. You can typically find decent light at almost any location, but the light will come before backdrop always.

Other than great light, I want you to shine in your photos. The location and backdrop should only enhance you and never take away from you! We can be in the water or in town or pretty much anywhere as long as you are what we first see.

Let’s take Laura’s senior photos for instance. She is stunning and in most of her photos your eye is drawn directly to her. Her body language and facial expressions are the first thing you see. Once you’ve looked at her joy and happiness then you start to notice the cute little bridge or pathway around her. I want that to be the case with you as well. You should be the star of the show and the beautiful location should be your backup dancers.
