You’re getting your senior pictures taken and the thought of posing feels more awkward than a first-day-of-school icebreaker game. Trust me, you’re not alone! Most seniors I work with start their session telling me, “I don’t know how to pose and I have no idea what to do with my hands.” But here’s the good news—you don’t need to be a professional model to look natural and confident in your photos. That’s what I’m here for!
Even though I will show you how to pose throughout your photoshoot. Here are some additional posing tips to help you feel at ease and actually enjoy your session:
1. Move, Don’t Stiffen Up
The best photos happen when you’re in motion. Walk toward the camera, twirl your hair, sway a little—small movements make a huge difference in making your poses feel natural. Think of it like acting out a moment rather than holding a stiff position.
2. Relax Your Hands
If you feel like your hands are just there, give them a job! Slide them into your pockets, lightly touch your hair or chin, or cross your arms for a confident look. The key is keeping them soft and natural—no robot hands here!
3. Perfect the ‘Soft Smile’
Not every photo needs a big, cheesy grin. Try a soft smile—slightly upturned lips, relaxed eyes—for a natural, effortless vibe. And if you’re laughing at my bad jokes? Even better.
4. Shift Your Weight
Standing straight-on to the camera can feel unnatural. Instead, put your weight on one foot, pop a knee, or angle your shoulders slightly. This creates flattering, dynamic poses that feel more like you.
5. Trust Your Photographer!
I’ll guide you through everything—where to stand, how to angle your body, even when to fake-laugh for that perfect candid. You don’t have to figure it out on your own! I will be here to show you what to do!
