Including your pets into your senior photos is such a fun way to make your session personal and unique. Whether it’s your dog, cat, or even a horse, including your animals adds a special touch that reflects your personality. However, as adorable as these photos can be, there’s a little extra planning involved. Here are some things to keep in mind when including your furry (or not-so-furry) friends in your senior session.

1. Plan for Extra Time

Animals have their own agenda, and that’s totally okay! Whether they’re feeling playful, nervous, or just not in the mood to pose, it’s important to allow for some flexibility in the session. If your pet needs time to settle in, we will start with a few solo shots of you before bringing them in to participate.

2. Bring Help

Having a friend or family member along to handle your pet between shots or play with them once we are done is a game changer. They can help keep your animal calm, hold onto leashes, or even get their attention when we need that perfect head tilt!

3. Choose the Right Location

If you’re including a larger animal like a horse, we’ll need to make sure the location is safe and comfortable. Jenna brought her horse to her senior session at Camden State Park, and while the images were absolutely stunning, it took extra patience and planning to make it all come together. Wide-open spaces work best for animals that need room to move. Also planning your session around where your pet is most comfortable is ideal.

4. Be Realistic

As much as we’d love for your pet to strike the perfect pose, they might not always cooperate. That’s totally fine! The best approach is to keep things relaxed and go with the flow. Some of the most beautiful images come from those in-between moments when you’re just naturally interacting with your pet.

5. Bring Treats and Favorite Toys

A little bribery goes a long way! Having treats or a favorite toy on hand can help grab their attention and reward them for being a great model.
